30th Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair
Growth & Gusto
Growth and gusto were the key elements evident during the 30th edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair 2011! Nearly 17,000 trade buyers attended the HKTDC Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair, 7-11 September, with emerging market visitors up more than 12 per cent over last year. Visitor gains included the Middle East (up 46 per cent), Indonesia (up 40 per cent), Malaysia (up 34 per cent), India (up 29 per cent) and the Chinese mainland (up 11 per cent).
The fair, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association Ltd and the Federation of Hong Kong Watch Trades and Industries Ltd., featured group pavilions from the Chinese mainland, South Korea and Taiwan, along with special zones for name-brand and limited-edition timepieces.
Hong Kong is the world's second-largest watch and clock exporter; growing demand from the Chinese mainland is expected to further expand the market. The latest statistics show that Hong Kong is the world's top import markets for Swiss watch products. From January to July, imports from Switzerland totalled HK$19.3 billion, a 47 per cent increase over the same period last year. Watch and clock exports in the first seven months of 2011 reached HK$36.4 billion, up 24 per cent, year-on-year.
