Samvat 2066 brings new hopes and expectations with it! Diwali 2008 was the beginning of the global economic slowdown but Diwali 2009 seems to be more promising. The economic slowdown seems to have settled down in India and Sensex is slowly gaining momentum. Trade is upbeat and marketers have already embarked upon their mantras of luring customers, who are tired of holding back their desires and aspirations. Already, there is a buzz in the markets about customers wanting to shun their depressive garbs and approaching consumerism with renewed gusto and vigour.

It’s Time for India! India’s watch connoisseurs and collectors will get a ‘never-before’ opportunity to embark on a fascinating journey through the world of wristwatches. The third edition of ‘Time for India – 2009 Volume 3’, a collector’s table-top issue that constitutes a valuable set of reference works in the horological field, will be available in India. Authored by renowned journalist Gisbert L. Brunner, “Time for India 2009 – From the Sundail to the Tourbillon” is devoted to all facets of the wristwatch. It traces the modest beginnings of wristwatches more than 400 years ago to the present day.

This issue reflects the sentiments of the Indian consumer during Diwali time. Titan Industries’ Q1 FY 2010 profits were at Rs. 46 crore and the watches business grew. Similarly, internationally, Swatch Group remained a strong outperformer in its half yearly results. Titan jumpstarted the festive season with a flowers-inspired Raga Flora collection unveiled by Bollywood actress Nandana Sen. Not to be left behind, Tissot communicated its perfect partnership with Sports. Rolex continues to eulogise timeless design and performance. Officine Panerai became the preview partner and sponsor for the Collector’s Lounge at the India Modern & Contemporary Art Summit, 2009.  ETHOS, the luxury watch boutique brought to Mumbai, a never before seen, Carnet of Cartier’s jeweled timepieces. Brought for the first time to India, this signature collection of unique jewelry timepieces, brought in the hallmark Cartier craftsmanship and timeless traditions. The Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair 2009 had a muted response but sentiments were quite upbeat about the potential for exports into new regions. All eyes on this Festive season.

The world of watches is poised for a glittering show and we have unveiled the new look watchmarketreview.com, the one-stop web resource for India’s horological world. Log on to this infoway to get news and views on the horological business…
