MONDAINE

SWISS TIME ICON

MONDAINEIn 1986 the Bernheim family developed, a wristwatch based on the popular design of the Swiss Station Clock for their company Mondaine.  What has seldom succeeded in the history of design worked out pretty well here: a quadruple innovation, so to speak. The fist innovation is the miniaturization. Both the large clock as well as the watch are identical as far as their proportions are concerned and thus ideally refer to one another.

The second innovation is the privatization. The large clock belongs to one and all and is on public display. The small watch is a piece of jewelry – sure, it tells the time, but first and foremost it has to compete against countless other watches to win the consumers’ favor. The third innovation is the communication of messages. Anyone wearing the watch is not only able to tell the time in a flash – since the dial, the markers and the hands are large – it also says: “I am a train fan”. Anything capable of expressing messages like that is well designed.

The fourth innovation, finally, is: the clock, once exclusively a public symbol and public property is now contributing to the business of a private company that is developing it into a highly successful product: countless variants, round or angular, large and small have been developed.  Many hundreds of thousands of wristwatches have already been sold and the numbers of fans of this watch is growing both in the US and Japan – where they are discovering that Switzerland isn’t just about clocks, cheese, chocolate and banking secrecy, but that it has a lovely railway system, too.

Mondaine meets Retro
Form and function blend harmoniously in this newest shaped Retro styled legendary Mondaine watch. The immediately identifiable Mondaine dial with its signature red second hand is framed by an elegantly shaped case whose lugs smoothly fade into the integrated genuine leather strap.  A curved sapphire crystal that magnifies the characteristic dial further enhances the chic retro style.

The new line is available in two sizes, 40 mm for Gents and a generous 28 mm for ladies. The Gent’s version offers day and date indication. The ladies’ model features date readout. Both are offered in high polished stainless steel with a white dial, or in elegant matte brushed finish with a black dial. For those preferring a metal bracelet, the piece comes in a stylish, subtle matte finish. The watch is tested to 10 ATM water resistance – classic design with Swiss Quality. It is accompanied by a two-year guarantee, is Swiss-made, and backed by the Mondaine International Service Network (MISO). Available from authorized, professional watch dealers.

Design meets functionality
